Weekly Geeks 2009-01

Friday, January 9, 2009

Welcome to the return of Weekly Geeks! We took a break for six weeks to give us time to honor Dewey, regroup and decide how to proceed. It takes a village to keep Dewey's projects going - and that's just what this blogging village (blogage?) is doing. Although there will be different facilitators every week, this is the place to come for the Weekly Geeks theme, Mr. Linky and comments, so add this page to your favs.

So - shall we begin?

In the spirit of the amazing community building that Dewey was so good at, tell us about your favorite blogs, the ones you have bookmarked or subscribe to in your Google Reader, that you visit on a regular basis. Tell us what it is about these blogs that you love, that inspire or educate you or make you laugh. Be sure to link to them so we can find them too.

Another option: Reading goals for ’09 and wrap ups for ’08 have been pretty well covered by now on a lot of blogs and other memes. But if you haven’t done this, feel free to make that your first WG of the new year, in addition to or instead of the above.

Most of you know the drill, but for newcomers (welcome!), create your blog post, come back here and sign Mr. Linky with the url to the actual post so we can find it easily. In addition, leaving a comment is a nice touch. So go be Weekly Geeks! And don't forget to visit your fellow Geeksters and say hello.

I hope you're as glad as I am to have this meme return , and I'm sure Dewey is smiling her approval.

This week's WG brought to you by Terri/teelgee

It's good to be back, but bittersweet without Dewey here to guide us. Thanks for doing such a nice job with #1, Terri!

What Ali said. You're all great for doing this.

Yes, we will all wish Dewey but this is the right way to keep her in our memories.

I agree with Ali. It's great to have the Weekly Geeks back, but bittersweet without the captain of the ship :(

I love it that you have re-created Dewey's Weekly Geeks. Yes, for sure it is bittersweet, but like others already said, it is also a fine way of keeping the memory of Dewey alive. THANKS.

I'm glad this first task is about community - I'm sure Dewey would have loved that. :)

So for the new year, we're starting over the count? This will be WG1? Got it.

Question, is it possible to leave a comment if you don't have a blogger account? It's not a problem for me, but I don't know if everyone can say that.

Jaxon, Good question, thanks for pointing that out. We'll check into that.

Anyone who isn't able to comment under the current system, leave a comment to let us know! Just kidding. Contact us at WeeklyGeeksAdmin@gmail.com

Well, I never did WG, but I have started this year, particularly in honor of Dewey. We'll see if I can keep it up!

Ah, good to be back. It's like old home week, but without the star of the show. :o( I'm having fun visiting all the posts this morning. I will be at it all day, following all the links of all the posts!

Jaxon, people without Blogger accounts should be able to comment with anonymous ID or open ID. It just won't link to their blog profile automatically.

Thanks, everyone, for participating. And especially to Jill who set up the site. Brava!

Since I'm new to book blogging I never really visited Dewey's blog before she passed. This seems like such a thoughtful way to keep her contributions to the book blogging community alive.

I'm participating for the first time.

Thanks Terri, and thanks for a beautiful post and an appropriate topic to start us off!

I added our contact info in the sidebar, too. I figure it can't hurt to have it everywhere. :-)

And welcome to the new players!!

I'm number 30 on the list above. It's good to be back and I'm looking forward to travelling around your blogs.

I'm not 31 from above but wanted to add I think you're all to be congratulated for keeping Dewey's various activities running. Well done and I look forward to participating more this year.

I'm a newbie and never got to know Dewey but I've visited her blog several times and felt that Weekly Geeks was a great way to continue that community she helped to build.

I am also new to blogging, never knew Dewey but have read some of her posts and comments. I am excited to join WGs.

It's great to have this back, Dewey would be proud. I have to say that WG just might be hazerdous to my google reader. After this week's theme, I have added even more blogs to my blogroll and reader, it's nuts!

Wow, you guys did a great job-this site looks wonderful! Thanks so much for getting this up and going again. I'm sure Dewey would be proud of all your work. :)

Hey, Mr. Linky seems to have disappeared! Is it just me, or did something happen?

Ali said...

Shoot, it looks like it's down at the moment. Hopefully it'll return soon with all the links intact! In the meantime if you have a post, you can put your link in the comments and then fill in the Mr. Linky later.

I just stumbled across this blog today, have added several book blogs in my reader recently. I don't have a blog dedicated to books, but I DO read alot and love to read everyone's reviews! The idea of a weekly challenge sounds fun!

Welcome, Islandgirl, we're always glad to have more weekly geeks, and you definitely don't have to have a blog devoted to books in order to join in!
