Weekly Geeks 2009-13

Saturday, April 4, 2009

April 2nd was International Children's Book Day. And April is National Poetry Month. In celebration, I have two lovely options for you this week:

Option A: Be a kid!

You could read a picture book (or two or three) and share what you read.
Write up a post sharing your favorite books from childhood
Write up a post about reading together with your child(ren)

Option B: Be a poet!

Write your own poem and share with us!
Write bookish ABC poems--ABC's of favorite authors, favorite books, favorite characters, favorite book blogs, or any combination of the above. Maybe even an ABC's of a bibliophile or book addict. (A is for...B is for...etc.)(For example, ABC's of Dr. Seuss)
Review a book you've read recently in haiku. (It doesn't need to be a poetry book you're reviewing, any book will do.) See Emilyreads for an idea of what I mean.
Read a poetry book and review it
Participate in Poetry Friday (This week's host will be Carol's Corner.)

I love this WG! I am poet and I read and review poetry books too. So I think I will do this WG in various ways.

This is a wonderful WG and one I would love to join in. I have been around most of the blogs on my blogroll apologizing for not being that much around, so will not post that here. Just want to say that I expect to be back on a roll doing WG and much more later this spring.

I love this idea too! For option B, could we review several poems we read online instead of in a book?

I'm also in the mood for picture books...maybe I'll do both!

Despite the fact I never write poetry, I've written Twilight haiku.

Love the topics! My only problem is how to choose. I might need to post a couple of times.

Since I'm a Kindergarten teacher, I read a ton of kids books! I posted about one of my favorite themes.

I teach and I'm attending UCF to become a certified Exceptional Education Teacher. This post is awesome! This site is awesomer! (Forgive me, but I enjoy using spelling and grammatical errors in a place where it's often acceptable.) I'd definitely like to join. What a cool idea!

My post is not about crime fiction this week. It is about Australian picture books for children by Mem Fox, Hazel Edwards, and Graeme Base. Each of their books has been around for over 25 years, and are benchmarks in Australian books

Ooops, I goofed on the first link. I'll try to edit it out.

Oh, and I love this topic!

What fun this week!

I wanted to do almost all of these! Feel free to spread some of these ideas out a bit or reuse them.

Hi everyone! :) I chanced upon this site recently, and love the idea of random prompts relating to a wide range of topics. I'll share a little poem I wrote this week, meant to be the second part of a series. Still working on the 3rd part!

The Hunt for the Missing Words (Part 2)

I really wanted to participate in this one, but didn't get to. DARN... with two book blogs & a children's literature blog, this one was right up my alley. However, I am popping around everyone's site to see what they did which kinda', sorta' eases my disappointment ;-)

This is my first time around here, and I have to say I love it. This prompt reminded me of The Story about Ping, a childhood (young childhood) favorite.

I keep meaning to participate in WG, I need to make it a priority because it really makes you think.

I am trying to get around to all of my Followers this week. Some folks are getting a "Stack Overflow" message when they visit my blog. This is a random interaction problem between blogger and Internet Explorer. To fix this, just empty your Temp or Temp Internet folder. You could also consider switching to Firefox as your browser. I hope you'll still continue to visit!

I'm bumming I don't know how I missed this week's prompt.

I have a current meme celebrating National Poetry Month. Ali and I co-host C.O.R.A. Diversity Roll Call. Join us.
